Quote Response Paragraph

In Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin, the quote: "The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people" relates to when John was walking around town trying to find a place where he could cash in his checks. Nobody (ex: the bad people in the quote) would help him because, since he was living as a black man, and looked like a black man, everyone thought he had stolen the checks, until he meets a white lady (ex: the good people in the quote) who is willing to help him cash in his checks. Another example is when John is on the bus and is getting ready to get off at his stop, the bus driver opened the bus door when he wanted to get off but just kept driving past his stop, he drove for ten blocks past the bus stop and only stopped when a group of white people were getting on the bus, that's when John was able to quickly get off, but he was still ten blocks away from where he asked to get off.
