Black Like Me: Character Sketch
John Griffin is a White man who decides to write a book about his life as a black man, he goes to the doctor to tell him about his plan and gets some pigmentation pills. He then goes into the world as a different person, not only does he look different but he must also act different. John Griffin is a larger middle aged man and quite tall, he has short hair and wears glasses he wears expensive clothes but has to give them up so people won't be suspicious as to why (how they see it) a black man is wearing white men's clothing. He becomes friends with the shoeshine boy who he talked to a lot when he was white and the boy show's him how to be a black person, he has to shave his arms so his hair's won't show in the light and has to learn how to react when a white person is rude to him. John is a round character.
That was really good Madi, I like that you touched on the fact that Griffin had to conform to the role of a poor black man, by changing his appearance and his identity. Also you explained him in few words but informatively. Well done.
ReplyDeleteWell done Madi. I like how you describe the man not just physically but his feeling and actions. Even without reading the novel I see this character being a dynamic character for his changes along the story. It relates a lot to the novel The Help, where the main proposition is to write a book on the black perspective, how interesting is to change your perspective to show what is happening.
