Character Sketch: Lily Owens


Lily Owens is the daughter of T.Ray a cold hearted father. Her mother died when accidentally when she was four years old, which changed her life drastically. Throughout this novel Lily has learned about love, spirituality and beekeeping from her close adult figures.

Lily is a fourteen year old girl who grows up without a mother. If you are a teenage girl you know the difficulty and complications that come with your teenage years. Going through this without a mother to help guide along the way would make things more difficult than they already are. Lily is an unfashionable, flat chested girl who has a hard time fitting in.

Lily is a courageous, brave young girl who is mentally strong enough to have a father like T.Ray. When Lily breaks Rosaleen free from jail and runs away to Tiburon, South Carolina she meets August who changes her life completely. August's positive point of view changes Lily's opinion on life and helps her learn to except the past. Lily Ends up understanding her love for beekeeping, respect for others and to stand up for what she believes in.

Lily is a round character. We see things from her point of view, knowing her thoughts, feelings and opinion. You get a inside look on her journey of discovering the truth about her mother and what really happened. She is young and open minded helping her become loving and excepting of others.
