In
the novel Flight by Sherman Alexie references to the quote, “ The
ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people
but the silence over that by the good people” said by Martin Luther
King Jr. In this novel a boy named Zits who is a foster boy with the
ability to travel in time into other peoples bodies uncontrollably.
In one of his travels he is a little boy in a Indian camp whos voice
box has been slit by a U.S. Soldier, zits said “my voice has been
taken away” ( pg. 64 ) to him self. While in this body he has the
knowledge of zits as well as the Indian boy, zits knows that in a
hour there will be captain Custer and his 100 U.S. Calvary coming to
destroy the Indian camp. Zits may have had no voice but he could have
gone out of his way to inform the Indian camp leader, he could have
at least tried to lead them away from the camp to safety. Zits is not
a bad person but his laziness in not warning the Indian camp leader
could have saved lives. The silence of zits lead to the deaths of the
innocents.
