The quote from Martin Luther King Jr,
“ The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad
people but the silence over that by the good people,” is
demonstrated in the novel “Flight” by Sherman Alexie. The book
has many events where the good does not do anything but watch or
ignore the bad that surrounded them. Zits transforms into a drunk
homeless Indian, who is beaten up multiple times and has a serious
health condition which he could die from. People around him would
either ignore him or run away from him because he was a drunk
homeless person that gives attitude to everyone. Even though he
needed medical attention he was ignored by many people and also got
beaten up. It shows how the good don't care or don't think about the
homeless because they don't think that it's their problem to deal
with or that they are a lower priority and that their problems are
more important. But if the good did care and didn't do anything about
it maybe because they are to afraid to approach the person because they are
scared of what might could happen to them or don't have the courage
to do so. The worst thing a person may do is that they don't do
anything about the problem and watch it happen until it gets too
late.
I like how you took a whole chunk of the story and explained to us how this book relates to this qoute in such a fast, sharp message.
