The
ultimate tragedy is not the depression and cruelty by the bad people
but the silence over that by the good people. - Martin Luther King

Martin Luther King Jr.'s words
“The ultimate tragedy is not the depression and cruelty by the bad
people but the silence over that by the good people” Is a quote he
mentioned about the harsh way black people get treated without anyone
saying anything. In The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
examples of depression and cruelty were explored throughout this
book. When Lily decided to head into Tiburon, South Carolina- the
town written on the back of her mother’s photograph. On her
adventure out of town, a detour arose… Lily had to go bail Rosaleen
out of jail. When Lily arrived at the jail, she got told Rosaleen has
been taken to the Sylvan Memorial Hospital. Lily quickly headed over
to the hospital, when Lily got there; she travelled through the black
patient wing that was across from the white patient wing. Lily's
first devastating experience with racism happened when Lily saw
Rosaleen being beaten. Lily couldn't believe what had happened. The
white police officer had let three white men into the jail cell to
beat up Rosaleen. She was badly injured but what hurt more was the
silence that came out of the white police officers mouth.
Great final sentence, really nice way to pull the whole paragraph together and give it a strong finish.
ReplyDeleteThis was really well written and I liked the concluding sentence, it was really strong. Good job!
